UNDERSTANDING INTELLIGENCE: A JOURNEY FROM CLASSICAL THEORIES TO MODERN PERSPECTIVES
Intelligence is more
than just a psychological term; it is the key that shapes how society
functions, from the allocation of educational resources to the opportunities
for career advancement. Understanding intelligence helps us recognize human
potential in a more equitable and humane manner.

SAO CÁC LÝ THUYẾT TRÍ TUỆ LẠI QUAN TRỌNG VỚI XÃ HỘI
1. WHY THEORIES OF
INTELLIGENCE MATTER TO SOCIETY
Every competency
test, whether in schools or professional workplaces, is built upon an
"implicit theory." If society views intelligence as a single, fixed
ability, the educational system will focus on sorting and selecting.
Conversely, if we view intelligence as a diverse combination of various skills,
education will shift towards nurturing and developing individual strengths.
Do
The importance of
these theories lies in equity. Definitions of intelligence can create invisible
social barriers or become launching pads for growth. Therefore, critiquing and
renewing these theories is essential to ensure that no one is left behind simply
because they do not fit a narrow mold.

2. CLASSICAL
THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE AND THEIR CONTEMPORARY COUNTERPARTS
The history of
psychology began with factor analysis models, such as Charles Spearman’s theory
of the "g" factor (general intelligence). According to this view, an
intelligent person is one who possesses superior general cognitive ability
across almost all domains.
- Tầng I: Các khả năng cụ thể (như trí nhớ,
tốc độ xử lý).
- Tầng II: Các nhóm kỹ năng (như trí tuệ
ngôn ngữ, kỹ năng toán học).
- Tầng III: Trí tuệ tổng quát
("g").
Today, the
hierarchical model remains the foundation for many standardised tests. They
organize intelligence into three strata:
- Stratum I: Specific abilities (such as memory, processing
speed).
- Stratum II: Group factors (such as verbal intelligence,
mathematical skills).
- Stratum III: General intelligence ("g").
While these models
are effective in predicting short-term academic outcomes, they are often
criticized for their rigidity and inability to encompass the complex
expressions of intelligence in real-life contexts.

CONTEMPORARY THEORIES OF INTELLIGENCE
As science advances,
we realize that intelligence is far more fluid than the numbers on a page
suggest.
- Thuyết Đa trí tuệ (Multiple
Intelligences):
Howard Gardner gợi mở rằng trí tuệ không chỉ nằm ở IQ (logic và ngôn ngữ).
Nó còn bao gồm trí tuệ không gian (hội họa, kiến trúc), trí tuệ vận động
(thể thao, múa), trí tuệ nội tâm (thấu hiểu bản thân) và trí tuệ tương tác
(thấu hiểu người khác).
- Multiple Intelligences Theory:
Howard Gardner suggests that intelligence is not just limited to IQ
(logic and language). It also includes spatial intelligence (art,
architecture), kinesthetic intelligence (sports, dance), intrapersonal
intelligence (self-awareness), and interpersonal intelligence (empathy
for others).
- Systems and Biological
Theories: Modern research uses neurotechnology to observe how the brain
processes information. An "intelligent person" is not just
someone who gets the right answer, but someone who achieves high neural
efficiency—meaning they achieve good results with less energy
expenditure.
4. KẾT LUẬN
4. CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion,
intelligence is a multi-faceted entity, possessing a solid biological
foundation while being influenced by the cultural environment, education, and
individual motivation. Shifting from "measuring" intelligence to
"nurturing" it is a vital step for modern education.
Instead of trying to
confine intelligence to a single number, society should create environments
where every individual can maximize their unique forms of intelligence. True
intelligence is not about how much you know, but how you apply what you have to
solve problems and contribute to the community.
